I hear horred stories in the beauty industray all the time that talk about yellow teeth, crooked teach, and in the worst of cases gum disease. Let’s talk about gum desiese because its almost the worst case scenario in any woman’s beauty career.
Periodontal disease or the gum disease is an inflammatory condition. Periodontal diseases play a major role in numerous conditions that have a negative impact on the systematic health and an increased risk of cardio-vascular events such as stroke and heart attack. It can also have adverse outcomes on pregnancy such as low birth weight and preterm births. It also alters blood sugar control in people suffering with diabetes.
What causes periodontal disease?
The bacterium that is full in our mouth forms a sticky colorless plague on our teeth along with mucus and other particles. You can get rid of this plague with the help of flossing and brushing. But if the plague is not removed, it can harden and form “tartar” that cannot be cleaned by brushing. Tartar can only be removed by a professional cleaning by a dentist or a dentist hygienist.
If the plague and tartar remains for longer on your teeth without getting removes, they can become harmful. Then the bacteria can cause inflammation of the gums that is called “Gingivitis” which is a mild form of gum disease that can be reversed with the help of flossing and brushing daily. Any bone and tissue are not lost that holds the teeth in place by this type of gum disease.
Periodontitis is the advanced form of gingivitis when gingivitis is left untreated. Gums pull away from teeth and spaces are formed in Periodontitis and it all becomes infected. As the plague spreads the immune system of the body fights and that’s growing below the gum line. Body’s natural response to infections starts to break down with the passage of time if the disease is not being treated and it starts to break down the bone and the connective tissues that are holding the teeth in proper place. The bones, gums and tissues that support the teeth are destroyed if left untreated. And eventually, the teeth become loose and have to be removed.
