In uncertain cases, look for evidence of anaemia:
  • conjunctival pallor a
  • facial pallor b
  • palmar pallor b
The more that are present, the greater the chance of anaemia. b

Why?

Conjunctival pallor, facial or palmar pallor make anaemia more likely.
