Common causes of pleural effusions include b c
  • transudates

          - congestive heart failure
          - liver cirrhosis
          - nephrotic syndrome
          - hypoalbuminaemia

  • exudates
  •  - malignant effusions 
     - parapneumonic effusions 
     - tuberculosis 
     - pulmonary embolism 

Note:

The commonest causes of pleural effusions are malignancy, heart failure, and infection
