Watch for bleeding b

Note:

  • One in eight patients have moderate or severe bleeding after thrombolysis. (13%: 95% CI: 13% to 14%) a  
  • 5.0% have a major bleed (95% CI: 3.9% to 6.0%) b
  • Ocular haemorrhage is extremely rare (0.03%: 95% CI: 0.01% to 0.05%) c
  • Few patients develop a cardiac tamponade following thrombolysis (1%: 95% CI: 0.03% to 2.02%) c
  • The risk of major bleeding is increased with a
    • female sex
    • African ancestry
    • increasing age

Women, Africans and older patients are at increased risk of bleeding
