Heart failure and cardiogenic shock

Offer urgent revascularisation (within 6 hours) if cardiogenic shock develops within 36 hours of the infarct.

Why?

  • Patients revasculariased within 6 hours of developing cardiogenic shock following a myocardial infarction are less likely to die than patients who receive initial medical stabilisation and delayed revascularisation.

Intensive insulin treatment reduces mortality for patients with a glucose > 11.0 mmol/l.
