Prevention

There is no clear benefit from using   

• fish oil ^a
• azathioprine ^d
• adding allopurinol to 5-ASA ^d

Why?

• Fish oil does not increase remission in active disease, and does not clearly reduce relapses. ^a
• Withdrawing azathioprine in patients with ulcerative colitis in remission does not clearly increase the relapse rate. ^d
• Adding allopurinol to 5-ASA does not clearly reduce relapses. ^d
