Why?

The Truelove criteria can help rank disease severity

Disease severity c Criteria
severe disease ≥6 motions a day with macroscopic blood
  fever > 37.8° C on 2 out of 4 days
  pulse > 90 beats/minute
  anaemia < 75% predicted
  ESR > 30 mm/hr
moderate not severe or mild
mild ≤4 motions a day with no more than small amounts of macroscopic blood
  no fever
  pulse < 90 beats/minute
  anaemia not severe
  ESR ≤30 mm/hr

Severe clinical disease makes severe endoscopic disease slightly more likely
