Most patients in severe cases recover well c , though patients with acute hyponatraemia or rapid correction are more likely to die

  • One in twelve patients with severe hyponatraemia die (8%: 95% CI: 1.3% to 15%) c  
  • Half of patients with acute hyponatraemia (onset < 12 hours) die (50%: 95% CI: 24% to 76%) c
