• Ask patients to remain in bed afterwards. ^b

Why?

• Patients who lie supine for 6 hours compared with walking about, have a larger diuresis (on average 500 ml more) and a larger natriuresis (on average 50 mmol more). ^b
• Continuous i.v. frusemide causes a greater diuresis (on average 600ml/day) and natriuresis (on average 60 mmol/day) than bolus infusions in patients on high-doses ^a but has no clear effect on mortality. ^d
