Complications

• Stop LMWH ^a
• Protamine sulphate (1 mg inhibits 100 IU of dalteparin). Maximum dose 50 mg by slow iv infusion. ^d
  • Note: fresh-frozen plasma does not reverse the anticoagulant effect of LMWH
    

Minor bleeds

• Consider stopping LMWH  ^d
  

Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia

• Stop LMWH. ^a
• An alternative is danaparoid. ^d  
  

Other complications

• subcutaneous haematoma at site of injection ^d
• osteopenia in prolonged administration  ^c
