Why?

  • 54% of patients with oliguric acute renal failure due to surgical or obstetric problems increase their urine output when given mannitol (mean of 80 mL/hour) (95% CI: 38% to 70%). c
  • Mannitol 100 mL of 20% solution every 6 hrs led to hyperosmolality in 16% and pulmonary oedema in 1% of patients c
